Two New Tupleo Songs ready to debut this summer 2009!

The band has been working up two new songs to add to our show this summer, "Love in Your Heart" and "Close Shave".

About nine months ago my Dad passed away, and I wanted to say something musically about that experience. If you have gone through losing a parent, you will know that there are a million different emotions that you go experience. It's kind of a "where do you start?" type of thing. After several months went by, an idea started to form in my head about what I wanted to say and this thought ultimately evolved into a new TUPELO song called "Love in Your Heart". In it's raw form, I think we all felt that the song had potential, but as the band started to work up the song, the grooves and feel just didn't seem right, so it was a bit of a struggle. Over this past weekend, I recorded some new demos of the song trying different approaches and one really started to click. We took that demo into a full band rehearsal last night and I am happy to say that it really worked. I am now really looking forward to playing that song in our shows this summer.
We are currently adding pedal steel parts and layer Eagles-type harmonies. It's a good lesson in the creative process....Not everything is going to work right off the bat, so you need to keep working at it in order to find that one key than can unlock the music in it.

"Close Shave" is a new "southern country rocker that I wrote, very much in the "Hands to Yourself" motif. As you may have guessed, the song is indeed about a close encounter with the law. The song features one of our lead guitar players on lead vocals (Lee Hope). Lee is our secret weapon has a very engaging and natural vocal presence, especially for rockers.   JD
